You can easily manage your monthly contributions to your Parking or Transit benefits through your Forma account if commuter enrollment is set up on Forma.
Please note that not all Forma members with commuter benefits can adjust their elections directly on the platform—this ability depends on your employer's policies. Please contact your HR team for more details.
Important Pre-tax Forma card information
- If you don't already have a Pre-tax Forma Card, one will be issued to you when you elect commuter benefits on Forma. To learn more, see How is my pre-tax card issued?
-
If you're enrolled in an HSA only and elect commuter benefits, a new card will be issued.
- If you're enrolled in an FSA, LPFSA, or DCFSA, your existing Pre-tax Forma Card can be used for both Transit and Parking benefits.
How do I elect commuter benefits for the first time?
If you're eligible to enroll in commuter benefits and you’re electing for the first time, navigate to the 'Benefits' page on your Forma account and click 'Get Started'
Note that your eligibility is determined by your employer.
Elect contributions
Enter your desired contribution amount for your Parking or Transit benefit in the box on the right side of the screen, or adjust the scroll bar to update the amount.
- The START DATE indicates when your monthly election will take effect
- The deadline for next month’s changes (enroll by) is the cutoff date to enroll or edit commuter elections for the following month.
- If your employer permits post-tax commuter contributions, any amount exceeding the pre-tax commuter limit will be treated as post-tax. Forma will notify you with a pop-up message.
Review
Once you’ve finished making your commuter elections, click “Review Contributions” and confirm the details.
Funding frequency defines when you’ll receive contributions in your commuter account. If commuter accounts are payroll-funded, you’ll generally receive the funds on your employer’s payroll schedule. Funding will be reflected on your Forma account 1-3 business days after the deduction is made from payroll. In some cases, your employer may fund the commuter account on a specific date each month.
Submit
By submitting this request, you are making a binding election for the commuter benefit(s) indicated on the form, authorizing your employer to deduct pre-tax income to pay for qualified commuter expenses as permitted under federal law. Your compensation will be reduced by the elected amount each pay period until the election is amended or terminated.
Contributions per pay period will be calculated based on your monthly election and pay schedule.
For example, if you elect $100 monthly and are on a semi-monthly pay schedule, $50 will be deducted per pay period. While you can update your Monthly Contribution amount through Forma, Contributions per pay period will adjust automatically based on your pay schedule.
If you’re satisfied with the details of your commuter election, click “Submit”. You’ll see a confirmation page to let you know the request was sent.
Your request will be processed immediately, and you will see your Parking or Transit benefit under “coming soon” on the benefits page once it’s set up.
How do I change my existing Commuter elections?
To ensure changes take effect for the upcoming month, submit your request by the cutoff date set by your employer.
To update your monthly election, log in to your Forma account. Navigate to the Benefits tab from the top menu, select Transit or Parking, click the Manage Transit (or Manage Parking) dropdown, and choose Edit my contributions.
Then on the next screen, select your new contribution amount, review it, and submit the request.
- Your change will only take effect starting from the new Start Date.
- Before the account start date, you can modify your initial election amount by clicking the arrow shown below.
- If you update your commuter election for a future date, the change won't appear in your account until the start date. However, you'll receive a confirmation email titled We've received your commuter benefits elections.
- To stop contributions, enter $0, move the scroll bar to the left, or toggle off the benefit under Enabled.
- Any contributed funds will remain available until the program ends or your employment is terminated.
