By contributing to your pretax commuter accounts, you can put aside money on a pretax basis to pay for your mass transportation and parking expenses. Unlike FSAs, you can decide and change how much you want to contribute to your commuter account anytime. Learn How does a Commuter Benefits Accounts work?
With Forma, you can easily set up your monthly contributions to your commuter transit or parking account by going to your account page.
First Time Setup
If you have never enrolled in the commuter program, you will see a Transit and Parking on your Forma portal → Benefits → Active accounts listing page, with an option to Get Started if you are eligible to participate in the program.
Please note your eligibility is determined by your employer.
Get Started
By clicking on Get Started, you will be directed to the enrollment process.
Elect Contributions
By entering the amount directly or dragging the option, you can make your monthly elections to your Transit or Parking account. You will not be able to proceed to the next step if you decide not to elect for any contributions for the first time. You may come back to set up the contributions later anytime.
-
The account start date is when your new monthly elections take effect.
-
The deadline for next month’s changes (enroll by) depends on your employer. You must enroll or make changes before the deadline for the elections to take effect in the next month.
Review
Once you make your elections, go to the Review Contributions page to confirm the details.
-
The funding frequency depends on your employer. Since commuter benefits are payroll-funded accounts, you usually do not get the funds until the payroll deductions are made. However, your employer might fund your account on a specific date of the month so you have access to your contributions in advance.
-
Please note that,
-
By submitting the request, you are making a binding election of the commuter benefit(s) indicated on the form and hereby authorize your employer to use pre-tax income to pay for qualified commuter benefits to the extent permitted under federal law.
-
Your compensation will be reduced by the amount you have elected under the commuter benefit(s) indicated on the form continuing for each pay period until it is amended or terminated.
-
Contributions per pay period will be calculated based on your monthly election and your pay schedule.
For example, if you are on a semi-monthly pay schedule with a $100 monthly election, you will be contributing $50 per pay period. You may change the Monthly Contributions, instead of the Contributions per pay period through Forma. -
For the change to take effect in the next month, the request must be submitted by the cutoff date determined by your employer. Otherwise, your change will take effect on the 1st of two months later.
-
Submit
If all details look good, you can go ahead and submit the elections. You will see a confirmation page to confirm your request is sent.
-
Your request will be processed within 2-3 business days, and you will see your transit and/or parking account on the benefits page once it is set up.
