Your transit account is a tax-advantaged account that you can use for transportation expenses to get to work. This includes bus, ferry, metro, train, bicycle, etc.
The easiest way to use your transit account is by using your pretax Forma card. You can think of it as a normal debit card except you can only use it for eligible expenses. Forma has opted to not leverage a purchasing network and instead gives our members the freedom to use the Forma card to place orders wherever they would like. We've found this to be the most user-friendly option.
For example, you take the metro to work and you use a metro card for that. You can use your Forma card to purchase metro credit (or the metro card itself) and load it into your metro card as long as there's a balance in your transit account. That's all!
Besides using your Forma card, you can also pay for the expenses out-of-pocket and file reimbursement claims for them on the Forma portal. Our dedicated claim adjudication team will review your claims within 48 hours. After your claim gets approved, you'll receive the reimbursements via direct deposit in 2-5 days.
